Abstract : The Mariepskop Mountain and its associated forests have been a favourite destination for Lepidoptera collectors and researchers alike for many decades. Nestled at the foot of the mountain where the forest gives way to woodland savanna is a butterfly haven known as Franklyn Park. The diversity found here was instrumental in investigating the comparative density of areas renowned for butterfly richness. Furthermore, localities in close proximity to Mariepskop where LepiMap submissions were collected combined with species lists from other authors visiting Mariepskop, formed the basis of a species diversity estimate for an area surrounding the mountain.
