Identifying skippers at larval stage (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae)

Abstract :

Currently, skippers, members of the Hesperiidae family, are usually identified by dissecting their genitalia.  It is suggested that skippers can be readily identified by examining the colouration and pattern on the head capsules of larvae.  This paper explores the characteristics on the colouration and pattern on head capsules of larvae as an alternative tool for identifying skippers.
