Title :
Abstract : A new subspecies of Charaxes xiphares (Cramer) is described from the Grootvadersbosch area of the southern Cape province. This population represents a taxonomically and geographically distinct taxon. It was previously known as form occidentalis van Son, 1953, but since this name is infrasubspecific and thus both invalid and unavailable for nomenclatural purposes, the taxon is here formally described as a new subspecies.
