Title :
Abstract : One hundred and four butterfly species in the families Nymphalidae, Lycaenidae, Pieridae, Papilionidae and Hesperiidae were recorded from the National Botanic Gardens, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. This represents approximately 16% of the South African butterfly fauna. Another thirteen species not listed here have been recorded by two other studies. The conservation value of this garden is briefly discussed.
